Project Overview
This stunning garden project took place in Lilliput, at a unique property that provides sweeping views across Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island. The existing landscape was a sunken Italian garden that left a lot to be desired.
Our team were given full creative freedom for this project, as the clients trusted TM Landscapes to deliver what they desired. We were asked to create a landscape that combined relaxation, entertainment, and year-round use, but the design was our choice.
Circular Garden Design
The primary focus of this garden design was circular layouts, to align with the panoramic views and the original layout of the landscape. The design is made of interlocking circular forms, each providing separate zones to align with our client’s desires for entertainment, relaxing and all-weather use. One such layer is the main seating area of the garden. The original sunken layout of this harbour garden was featured in the final design through subtly recessed seating.
Using this organic layout, we created a seating zone that is sheltered from the winds of this open location by being slightly recessed. Not only is this location now comfortable and safe, but it also provides breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the harbour and coast.
Decking, Paving And A Refined Colour Pallette
To ensure the attention remains on the stunning views around this harbour garden, we maintained a refined and neutral colour palette. Colours provided through hardscaping installations are muted and complement the natural landscape of the harbour perfectly, with Millboard Smoked Oak decking and cream porcelain paved terraces making up the majority of the garden.
Additional colour and structure have been provided through sustainable cedar, corten steel and glass, which were used to create hurricane-rated frameless balustrades. As this garden is an exposed location, providing shelter and screening was essential, but we did not want to hinder the panoramic views, which is why clear glass was chosen. Each area of the garden features rendered blockwork for structure.
Bespoke Design Features
With complete creative freedom, our team had numerous opportunities to incorporate bespoke design elements into this harbour garden design.
Some of the most significant builds in this harbour garden included a bespoke boathouse, complete with a log burner, outdoor shower, indoor kitchen, and integrated sound system. Fitting in with the coastal theme of the garden and property, this bespoke boathouse provides an all-weather refuge for our clients.
As well as these mod-cons, the boathouse includes concealed storage to keep the garden clean and organised at all times. Additional bespoke features include a smart irrigation and water-harvesting system, making it easy for our clients to maintain this beautiful harbour garden throughout the year.
